SHORT DESCRIPTION

Yavasa has a wide range of therapeutic and medicinal properties with the whole plant a usable. The roots, stem, thorny flower stalks and twigs of this plant contain certain constituents that have potent medicinal properties. This plant is described as laxative, diuretic and expectorant with its Kapha balancing nature.

  • Topical use of Yavasa powder in conjunction with coconut oil may also give relief from arthritic pain and inflammation.
  • 'Yavasarkara,' or the sugar derived from Yavasa, with a sweetish bitter flavour and is used as a decongestant in children's coughs.
  • Using Yavasa powder in combination with milk or rose water can help prevent skin infections, and rashes, to speed up wound healing.
  • Take ¼-½ teaspoon Yavasa churna mixed with honey or water after lunch and dinner to get relief from constipation.
  • Use yavasa as a nasal drop or nasya to get relief from headaches.
  • The fresh juice of the plant is used as a diuretic in the suppression of urine and also in constipation.
