WHY SHOULD YOU BE DOING KATI BASTI?

'Kati' in Sanskrit refers to the lower back, and 'Basti' denotes holding something inside. In order to reduce pain, stiffness, and inflammation in your lower back, a significant amount of warm, herbal oil is maintained there throughout the relaxing procedure known as katibasti.

The herbal oil in Kati Basti is what makes the treatment effective. The oil's warmth and pressure promote deeper penetration into the muscles, tendons, and ligaments, relieving pain and stiffness and calming spasms.

In Ayurvedic medicine, warm herbal oil (oil usage is determined by the pathology or condition of the patient / nature of pain) is used externally and is a key component of treatment. Herbal oil serves as a vehicle for transferring herbs into deeper tissues. The application of warmed herbal oils during a treatment causes the skin's pores to open up because of the heat. As a result, the medicinal effects of the herbs can reach the damaged tissues. When utilised in this way, herbs can aid in drawing toxins out of the body.

Your lower back is covered with dough (made of black gram flour) making a well of it at the affected area, which isfilled with warm herbal oil. Deep tissue penetration allows the oil to lubricate and ease tense muscles. After the oil is removed, a light massage is applied to the area to promote healing. If necessary, dietary restrictions and herbal Ayurvedic treatment may also be administered.

Conditions in which the treatment is advised.

  • Acute and chronic back pain
  • Muscle tightness, stiffness and spasm
  • Sciatica
  • Bulging disc
  • Arthritis

Benefits of the therapy

  1.         Reduces lower back discomfort, stiffness, and inflammation.
  2.         Removes sluggish blood, fluids, and toxins from the damaged area, which improves circulation.
  3.         Increases joint mobility and muscular flexibility by progressively relaxing tight, constricted muscle.
  4.         A strategy that is soft and calming for lower back discomfort that is too sensitive to be helped by massage.

Can I do the same procedure for my neck pain and stiffness?

Yes! Absolutely. In Ayurveda, katibasti is used as a therapy for lower back discomfort. When your lower back discomfort is too sensitive to be helped by massage, it offers a relaxing and mild alternative.

'Greeva' in Sanskrit refers to the neck. Unlike katibasti- greevabasti is prescribed to paties having issue with their neck. GreevaBasti is a calming procedure in which a significant amount of heated herbal oil is kept on the neck. It is employed to treat neck, shoulder, and upper back discomfort, stiffness, and inflammation.
